Overview
The Jomsom Muktinath Trek is one of the most famous trekking regions in Nepal. At Team Himalaya, we have carefully handcrafted a trekking itinerary to offer you the best of both worlds. The 14-day-long Jomsom Muktinath Trek encompasses northwestern Nepal’s Mustang and Myagdi districts. Mustang – also known as the Land beyond the Himalayas lies to the north of the spellbinding Himalayan ranges like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Jomsom – Mustang's headquarters lie at an elevation of 2,700m, whereas the sacred shrine of Muktinath Temple lies at an elevation of 3,710m. Another highlight of the trek is the hike to Pun Hill (3,210m), a famous viewpoint in the Annapurna region that offers mesmerising views of more than 20 soaring mountains.
Trip Highlights
Fascinating trek in the world’s deepest Kali Gandaki River gorge,
Within the world’s highest mountains, the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas
From the low warm tropics to the alpine mid-hills and over to the arctic terrains
Into serene woodlands lined with beautiful rhododendrons, pines, and oak trees
Visiting traditional Gurung villages, the home of the legendary Gorkha
The Overwhelming everyday scenery of green hills and mountain panorama.
The Jomsom Muktinath Trek commences with a scenic journey to Pokhara in the Kaski district, either by road or air. The famous Lake City is also the gateway to most of the trekking regions in northwestern Nepal. From Pokhara, we will take a short drive to Nayapul, from where we will begin our trek. We will trek to Ghorepani, a popular village in the region, via Tirkhedhunga. After proper acclimatisation in Ghorepani, we will trek to Pun Hill to catch the sunrise. The most popular viewpoint in the region, and rightly so, Pun Hill grants unforgettable views of the mountains. After trekking up Pun Hill, we will continue our journey towards the Mustang district. We will trek mainly northward to reach Muktinath via picturesque Thakali settlements like Tatopani, Ghasa, Marpha, and Kagbeni. After visiting the sacred temple, we will drive back to Jomsom, from where we’ll catch a flight to Pokhara and subsequently to Kathmandu.
Since the Jomsom Muktinath Trek takes you to the best places northwestern Nepal has to offer, you will be left mesmerised by the sheer extent of the contrasting natural beauty. Located in the sub-alpine region, the trek to Pun Hill will take you through diverse and rich vegetation. From here, you can have a panoramic view of more than 20 peaks, including major peaks like Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Mt. Machhapuchhre, the Pokhara Valley, and the Mustang region. On the other hand, the Mustang is characterised by contrasts. Since it lies on the Tibetan Plateau, it has arid, harsh terrain, but is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The beauty of Jomsom and Muktinath is simply mesmerising.
We will also have the amazing opportunity to trek along the trail that follows the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the world’s deepest gorge. The trail passes through several beautiful hamlets in the Magadi and Mustang districts, including Ghorepani, Marpha, and Kagbeni, offering a rich cultural experience along the way. Thus, the journey offers a rare chance to witness and experience the rich cultures of the Gurungs, Puns, Magars, and Thakalis, who have perfectly preserved their traditions and beauty. Since the trek involves moderate elevation, individuals in good physical health are generally well-suited to it.

Tips for trekking staff and driver (tipping is expected)
We had a very successful EBC trek in October 2024 because of Team Himalaya! Our guide, Raj, was very knowledgeable in all things Everest. He set us up in the best lodges where we had great service all along. He provided us with a superb porter, who also went above and beyond in taking care of us. Raj was very patient with us and was always looking out for our best interests. We would highly recommend Team Himalaya for any trek!

Everest Base Camp Team Himalaya March 2024
We have just returned from a 14 day, 11 day hike with Raj and Durga from Team Himalaya to Everest Base Camp. From the minute we landed to our departure we were properly looked after and cared for by Team Himalaya. The trek to and from Everest Base Camp was wonderful, our guides and porters really looked after us and were incredibly knowledgeable. In Nepal things can go wrong especially with flights to and from Lukla but Team responded magnificently and found alternative solutions. If this is on your bucket list as ours and you are looking for a company to organise this with I would 100% recommend Raj.

Reaching Everest Base Camp with TEAM HIMALAYA
If you are looking for an adventure of a lifetime, don’t hesitate! Choose TEAM HIMALAYA for your Everest Base Camp trek! We completed the EBC trek early November 2023 . My husband and I chose to do a private trek with Team Himalaya. Everything went smoothly with our guide Raj. His team and organization is outstanding! We could not have done it without him. Raj took care of everything throughout the trek and made sure we were well at all times, even providing us fresh fruits every night after dinner! We felt safe at all times , his experience and knowledge of the Himalayas helped us achieve our goal in reaching the EBC! His professionalism went beyond our expectations from our first contact with him for information until the very end. We will forever remember this expedition and gained a friend in our guide Raj!

Incredible Experience by evan
It was an incredible experience being surrounded by the towering Annapurna Himalayas. This memorable trek through Nepal offered the best scenic views and stunning landscapes. Despite being surprised at how quickly the trek ended, the daily walks were filled with dramatic views that left a lasting impression.
I highly recommend this adventure, as it is one of the best base camp treks in the Himalayas with minimal risk of altitude sickness. Although there were steep ups and downs that were tiring on some days, the breathtaking views made it all worth it. This was easily the most exciting trek I have ever experienced.
I want to thank Team Himalayas and Raj for providing exceptional service with their expert guide and staff.
