Overview
Tibet Overland and Everest Base Camp Trek is a rewarding tour that connects culturally rich Tibet to Everest Base Camp. Moreover, this tour is a true combination of visiting major historical and cultural sites in Tibet and shifting to the world’s best tourist destination, Everest Base Camp.
The Tibet Overland and Everest Base Camp tour commences with a spectacular flight across the Himalayas from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Lhasa is one of the prime cities of Tibet. We explore significant heritage sites, holy monasteries, and traditional markets. These sites include Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Bharkhor market, and Drepung and Sera Monasteries. Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple are magnificent works of art and architecture that embody ancient civilisation and history. Bharkhor market is a traditional Tibetan market where we gain insight into Tibetan identities through various arts offered to the gods. The tour now shifts with a jeep drive from Lhasa to Tashilhunpo at Shigatse. Tashilumpo is an ancient monastery with excellent examples of art and architecture. Then we visit the Kumbum Stupa in Gyantse and explore it. We also drive past alluring turquoise lakes.
At the same time, we enjoy breathtaking mountain scenery, and now we reach Rongbuk Monastery. After we explore this monastery, we will ultimately take the Everest Base Camp Trek. Stepping at Everest Base Camp is a memorable experience. Here, one can enjoy magnificent mountain views dominating the skyline. Then we cross the Tibet-Nepal border and drive to Kathmandu, still enjoying the countryside and landscape. The route's terraced landscapes and arid setting will be an excellent experience for tourists.

Lhasa is at 3,600m/12,000ft and provides an ideal acclimation for the first few days, tour starts from morning till late afternoon with a lunch break near or around the hotel premises, the guided tour with our expert Tibetan in Lhasa here you will be engrossed for two days with sightseeing and excursions of the Potala Palace, Norbulingkha Summer Palace, Sera, and Drepung Monastery. A completely forbidden city until present times, Lhasa was a holy grail for many central Asian explorers in the past centuries, the Lhasa city has been changed and altered by the Chinese occupation and the impact of foreign visitors, however much of the original character remains and whilst jostling through the Potala with crowds of ethnic Tibetans, it is hard not to be captivated by this magnificent culture, religion, and traditions.
Visit the great monasteries of Sera and Drepung, both extensively destroyed during the Cultural Revolution and now being rebuilt, as well as the Jokhang and the Potala Palace.

Starting early this morning, we set out on the beautiful, scenic drive to Gyantse town. The route leads near Gongar airport, just after the bridge over the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra River). Our route then heads southeast, branching off from Gongar. Then the drive slowly climbs to Khamba-la at 4,800 meters, with awesome views of the surrounding landscape and snow-capped peaks, and of beautiful emerald Yamdrok Tsho, the Turquoise Lake. After a nice break, the drive continues by Yamdrok Tsho, through Ngartse town, and then to Karo-la at the 5,050-meter pass.
This area is situated in a narrow mountain gorge with amazing views of ice falls and the glacier of Mt. Nzongkhangsa at 7,206 meters. After an awesome moment, our drive continues for another three hours to Gyantse for the overnight stop. Gyantse town, almost a city, which was, until recently, the third-largest settlement in Tibet, and visit the Kumbum stupa, built in the early 15th century, which contains thousands of frescoes.
In Gyantse, after visiting the Kumbum monastery, visit the market, as time permits, at this high altitude.

The morning drive continues towards Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet after Lhasa, covering about 95 km. m. The road has recently been improved, removing the bumpy, rutted portion. On leaving Gyantse, the journey begins on a long straight road, with no hills to climb. The route follows the Nyang Chu River, passing through many scattered farm villages and fields, and finally approaching Shigatse.
In Shigatse, visit the vast Tashilhunpo Monastery. This is the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama and contains a 27m high gold-plated Buddha known as Matria (the future Buddha). This afternoon, visit an interesting local market.

After a wonderful time at Shigtse, today’s drive to the highest point of this adventure, over Gyatso-la pass at 5,220 meters, continues on the main Kathmandu / Lhasa Friendship highway. At first, the drive passes through two high passes, one at 4,500 m and the other at 5,220 m. Driving through the town of Larze, where the road to Mt. Kailash joins, the drive climbs to the highest pass at Gyatso–la. From here, a downhill slope leads to Shegar (or, with a new name, New Tingri). Old Shegar is further south of the main Friendship Highway, but most hotels and inns are along the main highway. This place is also the gateway to Everest Base Camp and Kharte (in the Makalu region).

From Shegar our route leads off from the main Nepal / China Friendship highway, on leaving Shegar drive through farmlands, villages, and small towns after a few hours of good driving coming to a junction that leads towards Rongbuk Monastery and Kharte from here another two hours of drive brings at Rongbuk Monastery for the overnight stop, with fabulous North Face views of Mt. Everest which is stunning from this spot.
Depending on the time, one can reach Everest Base Camp by horse cart within half an hour, as motor cars are not allowed beyond this limit, except for elderly people and kids.

Here at Rongbuk Gompa, many hermitage retreats were introduced to the world in the 1920s through the accounts of the 1st British expedition’s teams, George and Irving Mallaory, and the well-known novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton. At present, most of the retreat cells are abandoned, and only a few small monasteries scattered at the end of the valley are in operation. According to the Rimpoche of this area, the monastery was first established as a religious site around 250 to 350 years ago.
Morning options for a short walk of fewer than 2 hours or one can take a horsecart ride or motorbike taxi, from here through several isolated and ruined monuments, then descending to the main road after 30 minutes walks to a fresh running stream(the local pilgrims considers as holy water), after being on the main track the road continues on this easy wide trail coming to the ruins of Sherab Chholing, above the road from the Stupa with piles of prayers stones, with time for a visit in this old hermitage caves on route to Everest Base Camp. Continue for another hour on the gravel, rocky trail towards Everest Base Camp, where you'll have majestic views of the North Face of Everest and the Rongbuk Glacier. After a great time here, return to Rongbuk for an overnight stop.

After a memorable and wonderful time here at Rongbuk monastery, our drive continues back to join the main highway at Old Tingri, through this windswept landscape. Morning drive to Old Tingri, the old trekking route to Everest Base Camp and Cho–Oyu area. After the town of Old Tingri, the drive reaches the last high pass at Laylung-la (5,050 meters), offering fascinating views of the high mountains of Mt. Shishapangma, Gurishankar, Dorji Lakpa, and other peaks along the border with Nepal. From here on, descend to low altitude, reaching Nylam town; after a brief stop, you are brought back to the tree lines and lush vegetation, leaving the high Tibetan plateau behind. The road follows the Bhote Kosi for a while through the beautiful rhododendron and pine forests. The road winds down to reach Zhangmu, also known as Khasa in Nepali; the Tibetans call it Dramu. It is a mix of people from China, Tibetans, and Nepalis, with plenty of shops, stores, and restaurants, where we check into the best available hotels.

Morning at 9 a.m. in Beijing Standard Time, which is 2 hours and 15 minutes ahead of Nepali Standard Time, through immigration and customs formalities at the Zhangmu border post, then continue with a short drive to the Friendship Bridge.
From here, a few minutes’ walk reaches the Nepal Border at Kodari, the frontier post, with immigration formalities. A nice, pleasant drive brings you back to Kathmandu after almost five hours of scenic driving.

Dear Guests and Travellers to Nepal and other Himalayan destinations, please make sure you have understood our Terms and Conditions after carefully reading the mutual contract and legal process, as this will help maintain our friendly relationship for the long term.
After selecting the trip of your choice from our varied programs and itineraries, the first step in the booking process is to complete our booking form and send it, along with a 40% non-refundable deposit for the entire Nepal Trip.
Along with the completed form, you are required to email your passport copy and flight Ticket with all details to us in the Kathmandu office at Team Himalaya ([email protected]).
Upon receiving your passport copy and details, along with your completed booking form and non-refundable deposit, we will send you a final confirmation receipt and acknowledgement.
All deposits are required for selected and chosen trips on a per-person basis. We will email you with the direct deposit procedure and details.
As per the booking and Trip money transfer, service charges of the respective banks may apply and should be paid at the time of deposit.
We will email you the details for making payments by credit card once you have filled out the Booking form.
We accept Visa or MasterCard only, with a 4% surcharge as a processing fee, and wire transfers are charged as a service by the Banks.
The Condition for clearing the remaining balance as per the trip booked is as follows:
The remaining balance for all Nepal Trips should be paid upon arrival.
The remaining balance for other Himalayan countries, such as Bhutan and Tibet, as well as for all multi-country tours, must be cleared within 35 days of your trip departure dates.

03: Refund & Cancellation:
The company will not refund the 40% deposit in case of cancellation of your trip for any reason whatsoever.
After paying the full amount for a selected trip, you are entitled to a refund if you cancel, provided you inform us as early as possible. This will enable us to process the charge in a reasonable manner, in accordance with the company's rules and regulations.
Still, the cancellation charge is invoiced to you. Written notification of your cancellation is required to cancel any trip. Nevertheless, you have imposed a cancellation charge as advised below:-

04: Extra Supplement Charge:
Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions (P) Ltd tour/trek packages, rooms, or tents are provided on a twin-sharing basis. Thus, a single-room supplement will be charged for a client who does not have another tour participant to share a room/tent with. It also applies to clients who need a single supplement in hotel or lodge tents/rooms.
05: Early return from any Tours or Treks:
No refund will be entertained for clients who return early from our trips due to personal, domestic/medical, or other issues, regardless of any portions of the itinerary that remain unused.
06: Amendment in Trip Cost:
Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions (P) Ltd. reserves the right to revise or change the trip costing rate posted on our website, under any circumstances, or on the pressure of various external factors beyond our control, for instance, changes in exchange rate, government action, etc. inflation, however assuring that we will put our effort as much possible to keep the present cost rate as it is.
07: Unforeseen Circumstances:
If the company has to cancel the trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, political conflict, unfavourable weather, or road closures, we will refer you to an alternative trip of a similar type and standard.
Even if this doesn’t suit your preferences and interests, all trip prices you pay to our company will be refunded, with an administration and trip arrangement charge of 15-20%, depending on the trip chosen.
Please note that any other expenses incurred by you as a result of this booking are entirely your responsibility.
08: Travel / Medical Insurance:
We strongly recommend that all booking Clients acquire Travel and Medical Insurance as a compulsory requirement for all our tours, trekking, and climbing trips. It should include adequate protection for tour/trekking/climbing/rafting or any other adventure sports, covering personal injury, death, medical expenses, and repatriation/emergency evacuation expenses by any means of transportation, such as helicopter rescue or air ambulance, as well as adequate baggage cover.
09: Health & Fitness:
All our Treks and Tours require sound health and a level of fitness before signing the booking with us. The client should always check with their local Doctor or Physician regarding their health and fitness before the trip departs for Himalayan destinations.
It’s solely the client’s responsibility to inform Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions of any pre-existing medical condition or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your required medical attention, which may affect your capability to travel on the trips booked with us.
Children and Elderly people:
An authorised guardian by the parents must accompany all travellers under the age of sixteen.
A person of more than 70 years of age, although in good health, still needs a partner, family member, or friend to accompany him/her.

10: Nepal / Tibet Visas & Passport Conditions:
All clients must have a valid passport with at least six months of validity from the return date of travel.
Nepal visas can be obtained from the Nepal Consulate or Embassy in your country or upon arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. The costs of Nepalese visas are the sole responsibility of clients. All clients must have a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from the return date. As you are unable to obtain visas to Tibet, you need to send your passport details to Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions for visa applications to travel in Tibet. We require this information at least three weeks before departure.
11: Risk and Liabilities:
Team Himalaya's main concern is your safety and satisfaction, as well as our staff's welfare. We carry out all our assignments sincerely & honestly to ensure your holiday is hassle-free and free of problems.
Nevertheless, unless stated otherwise, the trip may be changed due to uncertain or inherent circumstances, such as landslides, roadblocks, floods, heavy snow, political unrest, flight cancellations, delayed arrivals, sickness, or accidents. Any extra cost incurred there is your responsibility and should be borne on the spot.
Flight Delay/Cancellation:
Possibility of domestic flight delay or postponement due to bad weather in the Himalayan regions, which sometimes happens, particularly around the Everest region, Lukla, Phaplu, the Annapurna / Mustang / Manang region, Humde, Jomsom, and on the Far West Dolpa, Simikot, and Jumla region, and on the Far East sector, Tumlingtar, and Taplejung area.
Trekking in remote areas, or as described above, especially during the off-season, you are strongly advised to reserve extra days to account for delays and avoid frustrating consequences.
In case of flight cancellation for the pre-tour/post-tour, you need to bear the accommodation and food costs yourself.
12: Our Responsible Adventure Policy:
Our entire tour/trekking guide representing Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions deserves all authority during tours, trekking/rafting, and climbs.
Team Himalaya Treks & Expeditions will ensure to make every effort comfortable and satisfactory in all our trips, but one must understand that Himalayan or Third World and Developing Countries like Nepal cannot afford much of Western and highly timed facilities sometimes depending upon the area of travel, however, we will try our best to make your travel enjoyable with memorable time while with us.
Weather is another factor that directly affects some trips; hence, patience, enthusiasm, and proper preparation before heading out are a must.
Your personal belongings:
On any account, we’re not responsible for any loss or damage to your baggage/luggage or property, even when it is shouldered by our porters, ponies, or vehicles. Our trip escorts and guides will ensure necessary safety precautions are in place so this does not arise while with us.
Papers & Documents:
All necessary papers and documents should be presented in sequence, for example, to obtain visas and permits. We’re not accountable if any trip formalities aren't completed in time before the trip departs due to the absence of essential papers and documents.

We have just returned from a 14 day, 11 day hike with Raj and Durga from Team Himalaya to Everest Base Camp. From the minute we landed to our departure we were properly looked after and cared for by Team Himalaya. The trek to and from Everest Base Camp was wonderful, our guides and porters really looked after us and were incredibly knowledgeable. In Nepal things can go wrong especially with flights to and from Lukla but Team responded magnificently and found alternative solutions. Incredible Experience by evan
It was an incredible experience being surrounded by the towering Annapurna Himalayas. This memorable trek through Nepal offered the best scenic views and stunning landscapes. Despite being surprised at how quickly the trek ended, the daily walks were filled with dramatic views that left a lasting impression.
I highly recommend this adventure, as it is one of the best base camp treks in the Himalayas with minimal risk of altitude sickness. Although there were steep ups and downs that were tiring on some days, the breathtaking views made it all worth it. This was easily the most exciting trek I have ever experienced.
