If you are looking for the most awe-inspiring mountains without compromising comfort, the luxury trekking in Nepal has reached an amazing level of sophistication. You no longer have to give up on seeing some of the world’s most spectacular mountains for the sake of experiencing high-class hospitality.
But, when it comes to choosing which luxury expedition you want to embark on, two of Nepal’s best destinations come out on top: The Everest (Khumbu) Region and the Annapurna Region.
Whereas both regions offer outstanding lodge services, helicopter transportation, and fine dining, they are very different destinations suited to people with varying tastes. Here’s what you need to know to make the best decision for your style.
The Core Profiles: High-Altitude Legend vs. Diverse Foothill Sanctuary

The Everest Region: The Ultimate Alpine Prestige
A trek in Khumbu will always be focused on the grandeur and prestige of the world's tallest mountain. The luxury option for this location helps soften the rough edges of high-altitude trekking.
Terrain: Classic alpine wilderness consisting of steep and rocky granite faces, large glaciers and wide open valleys beyond the tree line.
Lodging Standard: Characterised by exclusive chain lodging establishments including Yeti Mountain Home (YMH) and Mountain Lodges of Nepal (MLN), complete with substantial stone construction, electric blanket or hot mattress system, en suite bathrooms and viewing lounge areas.
Experience: Alpine mountaineering history. Walking where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay once trekked, amidst strong Sherpa culture and mountaineering activities at high altitude.
The Annapurna & Mustang Region: Microclimatic Elegance
Annapurna is a region marked by incredible diversity and top-of-the-line resort architecture. Annapurna is not a region where you will survive harsh high-altitude conditions, but rather a place where one goes for pure, deep relaxation amid ever-changing views.
Terrain: Incredibly contrasted. Travelling through Annapurna means moving from the tropical valleys and rice-paddy terraces at low altitudes to the incredible desert landscapes of Upper Mustang, carved from rock by strong winds.
Lodging: A region featuring Ker & Downey Nepal country inns with manicured gardens and colonial stone buildings at low altitude, and Shinta Mani Mustang in the north. Created by Bill Bensley, Shinta Mani offers an unparalleled five-star experience, including your own adventure butlers and Tibetan medicine practitioners.
The Atmosphere: Relaxed, diverse, and eclectically cultural. The atmosphere switches from the traditional farming Gurungs in the south to the mysterious, forbidden Buddhist kingdoms of Tibet in the north.

The Deciding Factors: Which One Wins Your Booking?
Choose Everest If...
You need something truly amazing that will make you feel like you've made it. Imagine the idea of standing on top of the highest mountain on Earth (5,364m), looking down at the rumbling Khumbu Icefall while passing right by the faces of Lhotse and Ama Dablam in your very own helicopter. For all of those reasons, Everest is not to be avoided. It is more physically challenging because of the thin atmosphere, thus requiring heated and en-suite facilities.
Choose Annapurna & Mustang If...
Deep comfort, varied landscapes, and health are your top concerns. If you want to enjoy the Himalayas but don’t want to deal with the severe headaches of high altitudes, the better choices are Annapurna and Mustang. You can traverse lush rhododendron forests, relax in natural hot water springs, drink great wine on perfectly manicured lawn terraces, and explore centuries-old caves.
The Perfect Luxury Compromise: The Helicopter Safari
But should you be unable to decide between the sheer grandeur of Everest and the Annapurna, then there comes the cutting-edge approach: a Private Helicopter Safari.
Rather than spending weeks walking, high-net-worth individuals charter private jets and land at luxury base camps in each destination within one week. You get to enjoy a luxurious breakfast while facing Everest, a luxurious spa treatment in Pokhara, and a traditional feast in Kathmandu, all without exerting yourself.
luxury Everest Base Camp Trek
An 11-day luxury trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) with a helicopter exit can be considered the peak of comfortable travel. Using Nepal's best luxury lodges – the Mountain Lodges of Nepal (MLN) and Yeti Mountain Home (YMH) - this package offers an alternative to cold dormitories and basic accommodations, providing warm bedrooms, electric heating pads, private bathrooms, and exquisite meals.
What is even more luxurious than all of this is that you will enjoy a private helicopter ride down from the high alpine area, sparing yourself the exhausting four-day hike down the valley to arrive directly at a 5-star hotel in Kathmandu.
The Luxury EBC Overview
- 1. Total Duration: 11 Days / 10 Nights
2. Accommodation: 5-Star Hotels in Kathmandu; Premium Luxury Lodges on the trail (YMH & MLN networks).
3. Transportation: Private chartered helicopter transfers (Kathmandu \ Lukla and Gorak Shep \ Kathmandu).
4. Max Altitude: 5,545m (18,192ft) at Kala Patthar; 5,364m(17,598ft) at Everest Base Camp.

Day 2: Private Heli to Lukla & Trek to Phakding (2,610 m):
Trek: 3 hrs (~8 km) | Accommodation: Yeti Mountain Home
Avoid the madness that ensues from the crowded commercial airport. Charter a Eurocopter AS350 at the airport of Kathmandu and make your way through the skies straight over the green hills to the airstrip at Lukla (2,840m). Thereafter, meet your team of porters for a gradual 3-hour downhill hike through the Dudh Koshi river valley. You will then be checked in at YMH in Phakding, with its wooden panelled rooms and tiled bathrooms.
Day 3: The Ascent to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m):
Trek: 6 hrs (~11 km) | Accommodation: Mountain Lodges of Nepal.
Steel suspension bridges spanning the gorge are festooned with colourful prayer flags. Enter Sagarmatha National Park at the Monjo entrance and prepare for an uphill hike to the top of Namche Hill via a series of switchbacks. You can rest assured that your next stop will be the check-in counter of MLN Namche.
Day 4: Acclimatisation at Hotel Everest View (3,880 m):

One extremely important rest day physiologically devoted to the practice of "climb high, sleep low." Day 8: Second Acclimatisation Day at Dingboche:
Excursion: 3 hrs | Accommodation: Dingboche Resort.
To help your body adjust more easily to the challenging height ahead, slowly climb to the top of Nangkartshang Peak in 3 hours, taking the morning ridge path. Look down into the magnificent Imja Glacier from here, as well as the enormous, steep south face of Lhotse Mountain. Rest at the lodge for some tea and pastries.
Day 9: Edge Along the Khumbu Glacier to Lobuche (4,910 m):
Trek: 5 hrs (~8 km) | Accommodation: Lobuche Premium Comfort Lodge.
Hike along the lateral moraine ridge of the enormous Khumbu glacier. Stop by the Thukla pass for a moment of reverence to the grave memorials set up for deceased climbers who have died trying their luck on Mount Everest. Proceed in a slow and measured manner into the barren, moonscape terrain of Lobuche. Sleep in a luxury comfort lodge that has been extensively insulated.
Day 10: The Ultimate Goal: Everest Base Camp (5,364 m):
Trek: 7-8 hrs (~15 km) | Accommodation: Gorak Shep Comfort Lodge.
Proceed to the last stop of Gorak Shep (5,140 m), where a hot meal will be provided. Continue walking for about three hours over the moving rocks and ice to reach the base camp of Mount Everest, where you will find yourself standing next to an extremely famous rock draped with prayer flags (5,364 m). You will experience the excitement of the brightly yellow-coloured tents before heading back to Gorak Shep for dinner.
