Overview
Tilicho Lake Trekking with Thorang-la Pass Trek is situated in the Manang district of North-Western Nepal. The otherworldly Tilicho is the lake at the highest elevation in the world, at a stunning 4,919 meters. Tilicho Lake Thorong-La Pass Trekking will take you to the highest lake in the world, which is nestled right in the middle of the Himalayas, and a climb even higher to the Thorong-La Pass at 5,416 meters! Tilicho Lake Trekking and Thorong-La Pass encapsulate all the thrill and adventure you can experience in the Western Himalayas in a single trekking itinerary. Travelling through the beautiful alpine villages of Manang that are set in the foothills of the Annapurna massif to an emerald lake that reflects the crystal views of silver peaks in its water, being virtually within the reach of Gangapurna and Tillicho Peaks, and crossing the enthralling Thorong-La Pass that is more a test of mind than body, are some unforgettable experiences awaiting you. Another noteworthy highlight of the trek is a trek to the restricted, ancient Mustang Kingdom, before trekking down to the beautiful Lake City of Pokhara to relax at the end of the journey. The trail cuts through diverse elevations and climates, from semi-tropical to desert, and landscapes ranging from sub-tropical to alpine forests to snowy, barren, and staggeringly rocky terrain, culminating in the Thorong-La Mountain Pass. Undoubtedly, one of the most enriching trips in the Manang district, you will be surprised to know that only a fraction of people embarking on a trek around the Annapurna venture out to the Tilicho Lake. However, this serves as a bonus point, as the trek routes are still remote and isolated, unlike the classic, yet heavily commercialised, routes to the base camp.
Before commencing the 17-day-long Tilicho Lake Thorong-La Pass Trek, we will complete the sightseeing of some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. The trek begins with an 8-hour bus ride to the beautiful, bustling town of Beshi Shahar in Lamjung District. From here, we will ascend through the banks of the choppy Marshyangdi River, while the views of Mt. Manaslu and Mt. Himchuli keep us invigorated through the trek. The remote, off-beaten trail will take you through several beautiful hamlets inhabited by ethnic groups such as Brahmins, Chhetris, and Tamangs. At higher elevations, we will come across iconic Gurung settlements that heavily reflect the ancient Tibetan Buddhism. Finally, we will trek through Yak Kharka to reach the beautiful and holy Tilicho Lake.

We had a very successful EBC trek in October 2024 because of Team Himalaya! Our guide, Raj, was very knowledgeable in all things Everest. He set us up in the best lodges where we had great service all along. He provided us with a superb porter, who also went above and beyond in taking care of us. Raj was very patient with us and was always looking out for our best interests. We would highly recommend Team Himalaya for any trek!

Everest Base Camp Team Himalaya March 2024
We have just returned from a 14 day, 11 day hike with Raj and Durga from Team Himalaya to Everest Base Camp. From the minute we landed to our departure we were properly looked after and cared for by Team Himalaya. The trek to and from Everest Base Camp was wonderful, our guides and porters really looked after us and were incredibly knowledgeable. In Nepal things can go wrong especially with flights to and from Lukla but Team responded magnificently and found alternative solutions. If this is on your bucket list as ours and you are looking for a company to organise this with I would 100% recommend Raj.

Raj took care of everything throughout the trek and made sure we were well at all times, even providing us fresh fruits every night after dinner! We felt safe at all times , his experience and knowledge of the Himalayas helped us achieve our goal in reaching the EBC! His professionalism went beyond our expectations from our first contact with him for information until the very end. We will forever remember this expedition and gained a friend in our guide Raj!

Incredible Experience by evan
It was an incredible experience being surrounded by the towering Annapurna Himalayas. This memorable trek through Nepal offered the best scenic views and stunning landscapes. Despite being surprised at how quickly the trek ended, the daily walks were filled with dramatic views that left a lasting impression.
I highly recommend this adventure, as it is one of the best base camp treks in the Himalayas with minimal risk of altitude sickness. Although there were steep ups and downs that were tiring on some days, the breathtaking views made it all worth it. This was easily the most exciting trek I have ever experienced.
I want to thank Team Himalayas and Raj for providing exceptional service with their expert guide and staff.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Tilicho lake and Thoranga-la Pass Trekking
Will I have access to safe drinking water in the Annapurna Region?
Yes, you can refill your water bottle with boiled or purified water in the teahouses. It is better not to drink tap water or water from small streams, as it may harm your health. So, to prevent that, you should carry some purifying tablets with you.
How difficult is the Annapurna Region Trek?
The trek is moderate, as there will be no rope climbing. Most of the trails, such as the Mardi Himal Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek, involve long paths that might require you to go up and down. So, it might be difficult for some people with back and ankle problems. But with proper guidance and enough break times, almost anyone can complete the trek.
Is there a chance of getting altitude sickness during the trek?
The Poonhill trek’s elevation is 3,190 m, while the elevation of Thorong-la pass is 5,416 m. Generally, people experience symptoms of altitude sickness once they reach an elevation of 3000m. To avoid uncertainty, it is better to get a health checkup and a doctor's consultation before the Annapurna Region Trekking.
What kinds of food will I get during the trek?
You might have heard of the typical term “Dal Bhat”, which is both fulfilling and healthy. Most of the foods you get are grown by local farmers. You might not have many items on the Menus in the upper regions. You will get food items such as pasta, pancakes, bread, eggs, coffee, and hot lemon.
Can a solo woman traveller go on the Annapurna Base Camp trek?
Travelling alone can sometimes be the best thing you can do for yourself. But with our guide, you will be well taken care of during the trek. Our company prioritises the safety of women travellers.
Will we be using tents during the Trek?
It is not necessary to spend your night in tents, as there are several tea houses along the trek. So, we will not be using tents on the trek unless you want that kind of experience. If you have, then you should probably let us know beforehand.
Should I need a porter for my trek?
